Early childhood teachers who are caring for the children of essential personnel need protective equipment, supplies, and health coverage in order to stay safe. Child care providers need support so that their centers will be there for NC families when they can finally go back to work.
Families rely on our early education system in order to keep working, and our state’s economy does, too. Please join us in calling on state legislators to get emergency funding to our early childhood providers. Need more info? Scroll to the bottom of this page.
Even before COVID-19 hit, many North Carolina communities faced a child care shortage. Around half of all child care programs in the state are now closed. Extended closures will put many of them out of business permanently – making it incredibly hard for North Carolina’s families to go back to work when this crisis is over.
A lack of child care could keep large numbers of people from going back to work – and that will make it so much harder for all of our communities to bounce back.
Essential workers like health care and first responders are working long hours to fight the virus and care for the sick. Many child care providers have stepped up to stay open – often at considerable loss – to make sure these essential workers have a safe, reliable, and high-quality environment for their children.
Programs that remain open do not have funding for protective equipment, deep cleaning services, and other resources they need to protect the health of their staff, and the families they serve.
Please call on your North Carolina legislators to pass an emergency package. We are calling on them to fund child care so that teachers can work safely, and centers can reopen when families are ready to get back to work.
