Too many North Carolinians don’t have the health coverage they need, because our state has not yet expanded Medicaid. But we have a great opportunity now to make it happen!
Expanding Medicaid is one of the best tools our state can use right now to protect family financial security, fight infant & maternal death, keep parents healthy, and give children a better shot in life.

Background
Parents can’t work and take care of their children when they’re not healthy. Over 100,000 North Carolina parents don’t earn enough to buy private health insurance, but do not qualify for Medicaid.
The NC Senate has passed a bill to expand Medicaid and get health coverage to North Carolinians who really need it. This is a huge moment. Now the bill goes to the NC House of Representatives. Let’s urge them forward!
A family with two parents and two children that earns as little as $1,000/month makes too much for Medicaid. Expanding Medicaid would bring affordable health coverage to at least 100,000 low-income parents with children at home.
When parents and caregivers have health insurance, children are more likely to be covered as well. Researchers have found that states that expanded Medicaid have significantly lower rates of uninsured children. Parental health coverage benefits kids in so many ways, from decreased infant & maternal death, to improved family finances, and greater success in school.
The federal government is offering our state huge financial incentives to expand Medicaid coverage to low-income families who have no other health insurance option. It would provide even more funds for the state’s existing Medicaid program, which currently covers primarily children and disabled adults. Every parent and caregiver needs health coverage – and we can make that happen!
Please join us in calling on our legislators to take this deal – and get coverage to our state’s low-income families.
