ALERT - Call your Senators now COVID-19 Phase 3 Stimulus Package
Congress is working on Phase 3 of its COVID-19 relief package. Your calls are needed to Senators Burr and Tillis now to prioritize child care, paid leave, and health coverage for those directly in harm’s way.
Phone numbers for Senators Burr and Tillis are below, as well as a sample script you can use to help with your call. Your calls last week made a huge difference in passing the Families First Coronavirus Response Act - but there is so much still left to be done.
BACKGROUND ON THE ISSUES
CHILD CARE The US is on the verge of losing more than half its child care programs if there is not significant public investment immediately. Congress must allocate $50 billion from this relief package to compensate and retain staff, pay rent and cover fixed costs. Child care workers are on the front lines of this pandemic. If Congress does not act now, they will not be there for working families when it is over.
PAID LEAVE The Families First Coronavirus Response Act provides limited paid leave to many American workers. But those who work for small businesses, and very large businesses, were left out. Congress must expand these provisions so that everyone – including child care and other low-wage workers – can get adequate paid leave during this crisis.
MEDICAID This pandemic is threatening to overwhelm the US health care system. Congress must act now to bolster the Medicaid program for states by (1) increasing the rate they use to match state Medicaid dollars (called FMAP), and (2) restoring the Medicaid expansion match to states to 100%. They must also open special enrollment period and increase subsidies so that more people can access Affordable Care Act plans. Over 1 million people are uninsured in North Carolina alone.

MESSAGE FOR YOUR CALL
“Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I’m a constituent in [YOUR CITY], North Carolina. I am calling about the Phase 3 coronavirus stimulus. I have 3 requests for Senator [TILLIS / BURR].
First, $50 billion in relief for the child care sector to make sure they survive this crisis.
Second, close the paid leave loopholes so that everyone working in the US can get adequate paid leave.
Finally, help for all those facing a pandemic with no health coverage. Increase the Medicaid match to the states, and open up a special enrollment period so that more people can get a subsidized Affordable Care Act plan.
Thank you so much for all that you are doing for the people of North Carolina.”
Thank YOU so much for taking action! Stay well, stay home if you can, and please share this message with others.
